I don't think the A1or A2 stock is that much different in profile from that of an AKM stock - especially the polymer AKM stocks with the groove on the side installed on a 7.62x39 rifle. After all, the groove on the buttstock was intended to easily differentiate by eye a 5.45x39 rifle from a 7.62x39, so a soldier didn't get issued the wrong ammo.
