Posts: 4,629. It depends on which glass you are using ... not all etch and some glass types need mechanical means to give an etched look surface. However for most soft glass I recommend the crystals that Arrow Springs sells called "Glass Bead etching crystals" - you add water. They work really well.
2010-02-10, 7:06am. There are a lot of factors that determine how long one of those bottles lasts so I'm just going to relay my experience. For me, they would last about 4 hours. I could usually do about 6 beads or so. My main problem was that the little bottles would freeze up and I would find myself with a smaller and smaller flame.This type of mandrel isn't the "perfect" tool, but it is an inexpensive way to try glass ring-making. You can invest in better mandrels if you find that you like making them.
