The sealed refers to the recesses cartridge chambers in the cylinder that allows the rim off the cartridge to sit below the end of the cylinder.Unfortunately, as with many IJ models, specific serial number records no longer exist. You do in fact have a 2nd model Target Sealed 8 and I can tell you that the 2nd model was produced from 1947 to 1954.
