The most exteme case I know of is a twin blower front enigne dragster. It is a 406 stock block with a cast crank. In excess of 400 passes. 1200HP. You can push a stock block to around 600HP. After that aftermarket caps are needed to keep the caps from moving. Anything over 700HP you are really pushing the limits. . .but there are exceptions. ChrisAll the power stuff makes it really nice. Especially the cruise for me. Adding more power is very simple. However, if the Allison can only handle another 80-90 hp without damage. Went back with Moser 30's and have been running them for 3 1/2 years now. 3 years with the same 396 and now 1/2 season with a fresh 460 estimated at 575-600+ HP and 525-550 TQ all depending on track elevation and weather. With the 396 the ET's at 3640 lbs was 7.20's-7.30's in the 1/8th again depending on weather and track elevation.If it's in the 1" range, then that's the modern equivalent of a 28 spline axle. A 28 spline axle will handle up to 350 ft/lbs of torque at the flywheel - that's typical SBC Chevy, FWIW. THere is no one size fits all threshold because there is no one size fits all affect. A perfect balanced turbo 302 engine that never saw above 5000 RPM would probably hold up pretty well to about 550 reliably. Now the average massive weight crap balance NA engine typically sheets itself around 6500 RPM and 450hp.Combined with the smaller bore, the 5.3 apparently lends itself to being the best LS-ish stock bottom end for boost.
