I used the bottle the oil came in and slowly added the oil a pump or two at a time after I knew I had over 3 oz in the final. I filled it until the oil strarted to flow over the threads.

I installed a new filter and 3.8 quarts of 10w-30 Valvoline SJ rated oil. I have since read several articles and chats that state the additives in 10-w30 (energy conserving) oil can cause clutch slippage and damage.VTX 1300 IGN testing from Service Manual. Testing Ignition system and making a "Peak Voltage Adapter" Peak voltage adapter uses a diode to gate pulses to the capacitor which charges to the peak voltage. Honda shows IGN coil with100 peak volts at cranking speed is good. With engine running I have measured 276 peak volts.Install the rear plug after drained and then get a new filter put a little oil on the oil seal and scew her on tight. My 2006 manual for my VTX 1300 says every 8,000 miles and that's with "regular" oil. I used a Synthetic blend at 7,000 miles. Just curious to hear what other X'ers are doing for frequency of oil changes.
Stick with 10w-40, NON-Energy Conserving. Regular or Synthetic is entirely up to you. Regular oil, change interval is 8k per the manual. I would personally recommend 4k on regular oil. ...
