A sledgehammer is good for exactly 300 hits on a wall or gate, then it's ruined. That won't get you through, but you can find additional sledgehammers and keep at it and get through eventually. Picks or axes can be repaired, so last longer before ruined. Most any tool will work, just gotta keep at it.

Can’t seem to destroy a fence/gate. Found a base built and can’t seem to destroy the wall/gate. The walls are placed in an actual building’s doorframe and it’s just the top and bottom frame of the wall remaining. Base buildings takes so much effort and time so it must also take a lot of effort and time to break in. It is good now compared to old pointless system.Updated on September 16, 2023. from personal experience, 2 claymore and 4-5 frag grenades (doesnt matter western or eastern) brought a wooden gate from pristine to nothing but the frame. Had to use a Pioneer to shoot the exposed frame. Guides on YT says 12 nades.
