I just started atm8 used to play a lot of atm7 and used almost exclusively used silent gear, as I felt like it was the most powerful gear and I liked the customization. Apparently the enchanting table can't read my bookshelves if they're covered by slabs. You need at around 9 hell shelves surrounding the enchantment table to allow for the infusion enchantment to show up. I tested it out just before replying to this. I tried infusing it while I had seashelves, which didnt work until i lined up hellshelves. Since the recent update, salvager can crush the gems into dust. Not sure if there's a way to make a mob farm that would get you the gems, but you can set up an apotheosis spawner with all max upgrades for fast spawn, max mob stack and no requirements for spawn and AI-less.
