Currently, heroes to ascend to Elite rarity are: Maulers: Saveas (Primary), Golus (Optional). Wilders: Arden. Yes Ira is very good early on, but you should be able to find much better heroes early on. Lightbearers: Hogan. Mirael is in the same situation as Ira. Graveborn: Vedan, Silvina.
Rule #3 – Ascension Strategy. It takes time to take a hero to ascended so having the most viable strategy is important as you can’t work on multiple heroes per faction. Never work on ascending more than 1 hero per faction! Use the 8 heroes strategy: only ascend a hero when you have 8 epic copies so you can get it to ascended.

Also, many heroes need the Engravings more for the minor nodes stats to be able to work in higher deficits and NOT the enhanced abilities their E30, E60 or E80 provide!
